Invitation: Nature Reconnection for Inspired Action

Dear PSYCA Community,
Since Earth Month, we’ve been working with our community to design an experience for deepening connection with the living world. We’d love for you to join the very first pilot.

You’re invited to Nature Reconnection for Inspired Action, a guided experience in Prospect Park designed to strengthen our relationship with the natural world and explore how that connection can ripple outward into action.

Many of you already carry a deep sense of care and connection with the living world. This pilot is a creative exploration of how we can renew that connection—even in the heart of our concrete jungle.

For this first iteration, we’re also inviting each participant to bring a friend who enjoys nature but doesn’t necessarily identify as an environmentalist or climate advocate. Part of our aim is to see whether these simple practices in nature can spark new awareness and care, even in those less connected to this work.

Your participation is key to shaping what could become a powerful model for inspiring care for the Earth through shared experience. We’re curious what emerges when an experience includes both people already rooted in this work and those just beginning to explore it.

As part of the pilot, we’ll encourage participants to fill out a brief survey (10-15 mins) before and after their experience, and again six months later.

Date: Sat, Oct. 18, 2-5pm
Rain Date: Sun, Oct. 19, 2-5pm
Location: Prospect Park, Brooklyn, NY

Our Experience Together:

  • Seed Intentions: Set intentions together and connect with the land.

  • Visualization: Ground yourself through breath, and experience an “Earth Cord.”

  • Tiny Worlds: Explore nature’s small details and share what you notice.

  • Forest Bathe: Walk mindfully and sense your place in the wider ecosystem.

  • Closing Ceremony: Reflect as a group and commit to bringing insights forward.

Please RSVP — space is limited for this first experience. There is no cost to participate.

Optional BREZ beverages that contain THC will be available — or let your medicine be community and the natural world.

This is being led by PSYCA Co-Directors of Action Research:

  • Dr. Melanie Blair Pincus is a neuroscientist, artist, and facilitator exploring how immersive experiences can restore connection and belonging. Trained in ecology at Stanford and neuroscience at Emory, she designs and facilitates interactive spaces—from playful classrooms at Columbia to large-scale art installations—that invite collective flow, self-discovery, and renewed connection with the living world. She is the founder of Syncopy Design Lab, which creates experiences that harmonize inner and outer ecologies and rekindle a sense of kinship with nature.

  • Jon Burmeister is an associate professor of philosophy who teaches courses on ethics, spiritual practices, human nature, technology, and philosophy of mind.

Thank you for being part of this community and inspiring these efforts.

Gratefully,
Marissa
